Laser Eye Surgery

Anyone had laser eye surgery here?  Or know anyone who has?

My eyes are getting worse and I really need to look into either getting myself some glasses to wear semi full-time or else the laser thing.  Because sheesh, I just know it's gonna be one of those things that after I do it I will be breathing relief sighs and wondering why I didn't do it earlier.

I like the thought of laser on a philosophical level - light healing my eyes :)  But on a physical level, it creeps me out.  And it's a relatively new technology, and I've heard that it doesn't always last.  So I'm a bit hesitant on a couple of fronts.

So, any experiences you care to recount?

  1. If I had the money for it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Lots of people (maybe 10 - 15) that I used to work with had it and all of them were glad they did. I have worn contacts/glasses since I was 15 and my eyes are getting worse these days....not sure what to do about that.

  2. I know lots of people who have had great luck with it. I don't know about there, but here, it would cost about $3000....so I've never been able to afford it. I've been a contact lens wearer since I was 14...you'd think one day I'd earn a break... :)

No it doesn't always last and it's not always perfect the first time. So be sure you go to a place that guarantees their results or will re-do it for you. Most places here will do "touch ups" for life.

  3. Can't add much more Sue. My ex wife had it done and said it was awesome. You pretty much walk out of the surgery with 20/20 vision. It's said that at some point, you will need reading glasses as they normally make the corrections for your distance vision. I also know that if your prescription is continuously changing, they don't recommend it either.

It's something to look into. I got to watch it done on a monitor and it's pretty awesome.

  5. Barbara - wow, that's a lot of people in one workplace having it done. Thanks for the feedback

Erin - eeek, I didn't realise it was so expensive. Thanks for the touch-up advice; I guess if I can find somewhere that allows me to pay it off I will go the route maybe.

Mike - you watched it? Wow, thee has a stronger stomach than me :) I'd throw up and have a nervous breakdown watching people's eyes be messed with, haha :) So it's about distance vision - hmmm, thanks for that.

Kel - well, then, here is a glass lifted to your eyes *clink* :D

  6. My mother had it done about seven or eight years ago. Still doesn't wear glasses to read or anything. According to her (she is now 62), it's totally worth it.
